I have documented some issues with xarrayutils in #301, and I think that a lot of that machinery to calculate trends is actually obsolete with newer xarray versions.

I would like to combine this with #168 and completely eliminate xarrayutils. This should be relatively easy, since it is only used in xmip/drift_removal.py.
