We need a framework that makes use of the following ideas:

mocking to isolate logic and reduce verbosity of creating input structures
reducing duplication by use of common utilities that can be shared by multiple tests and test files
using chai.assert, which supports more strongly typed asserts
adding strongly typed equivalents of testing functionality where existing apis fail
