BIG release. Over 2 weeks, retired the Dell Inspiron 560 and migrated its workloads and data to a Dell OptiPlex 390 MT.

Also documented some previously omitted minor hardware adjustments too trivial to list here.

  • Completed move of 128 GB Samsung M.2 SATA SSD from HP ProBook 4530s to Dell OptiPlex 390 MT
  • 32 GB Samsung mSATA SSD can no longer be mounted and is retired. I got ~2 years more of usable life out of it after CDI flagged it as bad, which is impressive. Its death resulted in me having to resintall OpenIndiana from scratch, as apparently TimeSlider backups hadn't been working, either. On the plus side, now I get to set up OpenIndiana a little better without resorting to hacky crap like Bash-It
  • napp-it is no longer part of my deployment; I haven't found any use for it as every feature I've tried to use has been either broken, paywalled, or insufficient. Not worth the headache

Removed Timeshift from HP ProBook 4530s. Timeshift supports Btrfs or ext4 targets only, and with the root ext4 filesystem being the only available target, snapshots were filling up that filesystem. BackInTime already backs up the same stuff anyway.

Installed Logitech Unifying Receiver on Dell XPS 8500 Special Edition to shoulder the keyboard and mouse duties formerly borne by the Wi-Fi Adapter.

The Wi-Fi adapter seems to be malfunctioning:

  • Can't maintain connection to keyboard and mouse
  • Can't maintain connection to host machine

I've filed a warranty replacement ticket with Intel and expect to hear from them by tomorrow or next Monday. In the meantime I've disabled the Wi-Fi Adapter's Bluetooth functionality in Device Manager.
