access to history

i'm working on pulling in some history from my rails app into mercury's history panel but am having a hard time hooking into it - i know that this is something that is supposed to be configurable but i'm not sure how to go about it. i've got paper_trail and mercury editing the objects, it's just the interface between the two - any ideas?
