I was able to use this plugin successfully on iOS Safari, but when I try from desktop Safari it fails to play video. The picker works fine- I am able to select an Airplay target, but the video never plays.

Can anyone else confirm whether this is the case for them?

Works for me. I'm using the button on this video:

and airplaying via Safari 10.1.1 to a v4 appleTV

I had a similar issue where it would look like the video was going to start playing, but would immediately exit out. It appears that if you're trying to stream video from behind some authenticated endpoint, your AirPlay device (e.g., Apple TV) will not be able to read it. The AirPlay device will try to request the same data you're playing in the browser, but because it's not authenticated the request fails and AirPlay fails to work.
