Should I file this?

I'm a relatively new jj user. Yesterday I encountered what I would consider a serious issue in a repo (required using git commands to figure out what the git commits corresponding to not-yet-pushed changes were, pushing them using git, and then abandoning the repo), so normally I would file an issue, but:

• there are multiple confounding factors (buggy nfs, visualjj);
• I have been unsuccessful trying to do any investigation myself -- every command, even something like jj --ignore-working-copy op log --limit 5, just prints Concurrent modification detected, resolving automatically and then loops. (I could see it under /proc/<pid>/status making "progress" in that it was racking up more and more voluntary context switches, so it wasn't hanging. However, after 16 hours there was still no progress on getting rid of the extra heads under .jj/repo/op_heads/heads.)

So, I don't want to waste your or my time filing an issue if there is nothing that this will lead to. At a rough guess, does this seem like something worth filing? I did preserve the "stuck" repo, including 6 non-default workspaces, but I did move it somewhere else on the file system.

This really sounds like concurrent invocations of jj. Can you inspect your visualljj configurations and report back?

@PhilipMetzger I have since set jj config set --repo visualjj.snapshot-enabled false, but that was an attempt at improving the situation after it had already gone wrong. At the time, I had three vscode windows open, each with a different workspace (with the same parent repo). I can't find any other (non-default) visualjj settings.

can you also inspect the auto-fetch options? There's also I think an option with what frequency visualljj snapshots. cc @sheremetyev since he's behind visualjj.

@PhilipMetzger I use the free version of visualjj and IIUC, auto-fetch is a premium option, so that was not turned on. The snapshot frequency was set at default which (again IIUC) is 1 second (!).

but "buggy nfs" might explain "no progress on getting rid of the extra heads under .jj/repo/op_heads/heads". can you reproduce the problem when repo is on local disk?
