Hello @SirSheik , Device with variable power are useful only if SO can manage the power regarding the excessive production. The goal is that SO controls the power consumed by the device. I don't know if it is the case of your OpenEVSE or FreeDS. Note: you should better create a discussion and not an issue for this kind of question |

Hello.
First of all, thank you for this great project, it is definitely very useful.
I have been using it for a relatively short time and am using it as a priority manager.
I have a question about adding devices that have built-in intelligence to manage their own power and adapt it to the solar excess being injected into the grid. For example, an electric vehicle charger (OpenEVSE) and an electric hot water heater manager (FreeDS) are both devices that are capable of adjusting themselves to the energy exported to the grid.
Do you recommend registering these devices in the integration as ‘Normal on/off device’ or ‘Device with variable power’?
I have tried both cases and have not noticed any difference, but I do not know if either type could cause conflict problems with the algorithm. In both cases, I use a template to indicate the actual consumption at any given time to the integration.
Any recommendations?
Thank you very much for your time.
P.S. Sorry if this has already been asked before, but I tried searching for information in other issues and couldn't find any similar cases.
