Are all contribs compatible with every backend?

I noticed not all contribs are loaded by default, either with loading start-slynk.lisp or with (asdf:load-system :slynk). Am I supposed to load slynk/slynk-fancy-inspector.lisp manually for example? It seems like the backend decides which packages are loaded, at least for some.

Somewhat related, are there any difference between the two ways to load slynk mentioned?

Yes, but that's on the client side (Sly), right? I'm thinking server side (Slynk). If I do (list-all-packages) in the mrepl, I would expect to see SLYNK-FANCY-INSPECTOR, but it isn't there. Some contribs show up, but not all and I don't understand why.

Really do read the linked documentation. Loading a contrib's CL side by itself is of little use. You shouldn't be doing that yourself unless you know exactly what you're doing.

Usually, contribs differ from regular Emacs plugins in that they are partly written in Emacs-lisp and partly in Common Lisp. The former is usually the UI that queries the latter for information and then presents it to the user. SLIME used to load all the contribs’ Common Lisp code upfront, but SLY takes care to loading these two parts at the correct time.
