The public domain guttenberg book "Simple Sabotage" is crashing foliate, possibly this is in 'gjs' component. #1454

Describe the bug
.epub file crash.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Open the file.

Expected behavior
Opens up the .epub file.

Screenshots

Version:

  • Foliate version: 3.1.1
  • OS/Distribution and version: Fedora 41
  • Desktop environment: GNOME 47
  • Installation method: Flatpak

Additional context
Little Sabotage - CIA cookbook.epub.pdf
Happy bug crushing, remove .pdf extension, idk what exactly triggers this crash.

Works for me. You don't even have to change the extension, as it detects the filetype with magic bytes.

Does opening other books work for you?

I've installed foliate from fedora official repository and everything works as intended.

Yes, works for me too with version 3.2.0 flatpak on kde.

Don't know if that's related, but I'm also on Fedora 41 with GNOME 47, and while downloading some books from Standard Ebooks, I got a gjs crash as well. The problem reporting tool in Fedora links to this bug: https://retrace.fedoraproject.org/faf/reports/993951/. I installed via RPM from the GNOME software center. I could not reproduce the crash by opening the same files again.

FWIW, these are the books I had open in the app when it crashed:
