No more ssh and internet connection to device connected to raspberry as exit node

Hey,
followed your guide to install tailscale as an exit node on a raspberry. If I use this exit node on a oracle vm it instantly disconnects from ssh and all internet to this machine is gone. I can reconnect using the raspberry and ssh from there to the vm. Is there any log/idea what problem there might be?

Same issue in my case. enabling exit node breaks internet connection and device sets lo as default interface, while assigning 127.0.1.1

I’m not affiliated with Tailscale support, but I can share a few notes that might help you narrow it down while they review.

When a client enables an exit node, Tailscale replaces the system’s default route (0.0.0.0/0) with the tunnel interface (tailscale0). If that process fails, the system sometimes falls back to using the loopback interface (lo) — which looks like what’s happening here (127.0.1.1 becoming the default).

A few quick checks you can try:

ip route
tailscale status
tailscale netcheck

If you see default dev lo, that means the routing table didn’t update correctly.

Potential fixes or insights:

• Run tailscale set --accept-routes=true (ensures you’re allowing exit node routes)
• Double-check that your Oracle Cloud VM’s egress rules allow UDP 41641 and TCP 443
• Confirm the Raspberry Pi exit node is online and visible in tailscale status

If the VM loses connectivity, try reconnecting via the Pi and grab logs with:

sudo tailscale bugreport
sudo tailscale status --json

If it still persists, definitely open a ticket with Tailscale Support and include those logs. They can pinpoint whether it’s a routing or firewall quirk specific to Oracle.
