Trying to create a dummy device

If all the instructions and documentation on how to create a dummy device, I have a switch that is non-managed and I'd like to add it to the network tree. I've tried to do the loop IP address it does not work. It just causes it to be in an infinity loop and I'm not sure exactly what I'm doing wrong and I'm trying to do that because I wanted to say that it's online and it just continues to say it's off-line.

Did you also enable the ICMP plugin as per instructions?
