I have managed to run Kanata as a user service at startup in my instance of the Void Linux distro, which uses runit as its init system instead of systemd.
I followed the distro's documentation to run user services using runsvdir and then, inside the
service
folder mentioned in the docs, I added akanata
folder with arun
file in it containing the following script:A few things to notice:
<username>
with your user name and adjust the path to your Kanata configuration file appropriately.~/.cargo/bin
, which may not always be the case.sudo
to run Kanata in my system, unsure if this would work in the cases wheresudo
is needed.I hope this helps others who would also like to run Kanata at startup on Void Linux (and hopefully other distros that use runit) without much hustle.
