Hi folks!

Did you see that the wonderful Voices of JupyterHub report is now live? 💖 💖 💖

To quote from the "ways forward" part of the executive summary, we should:

  • Take pride in the project and tell the stories of JupyterHub.
  • Recognize that JupyterHub is a model subproject and be intentional about JupyterHub’s relationship to the broader Jupyter ecosystem.
  • Develop a more unified voice and enhance communication.
  • Improve onboarding/offboarding, retention, engagement and contributor pathways.
  • Have frank conversations about technical and organizational debt.
  • Make commitments to diversity and community health.
  • Get into a strategic mindset to move towards long term goals.
  • Build organizational capacity, particularly in non-technical domains.
  • Develop a more productive approach to engaging and working with deployers and users of hubs.

Those of us working on the CZI DEI funding have wondered about another leadership retreat like the one we held in Berkeley in June.

However - we've decided against a second one for two reasons:

  • Travel to and from the USA is a challenge for many reasons, particularly around the end of the year.
  • We'd like to have synchronous time for folks to work together rather than "just" talk.

So - please save the date for a remote-first hackathon (doathon? docathon? strategy-a-thon?) on 2 and 3 December 2025!

Our goal is to reflect on some of the recommendations from the report, assess any changes we've put in place over 2025, and 🎉 celebrate 🎉 this wonderful project.

If you have any hopes and dreams, questions about timings / logistics, suggestions of topics we cover, please add them to this issue!
