Cannot purge message in compacted topic anymore

Hi team,

I tried looking into the release note but couldn't find anything regarding this feature change. It was possible prior to 1.4.0 to purge the event in a compacted topic. In latest version (1.5.0) the UI it is not possible anymore. Is this an intended feature and if it is, can you please tell me why?

The logic behind both buttons hasn't been changed since 2022. Regarding the "Purge messages of selected topics" button — also check your RBAC config, this is gated by your permissions as well.

I checked and the rbac shouldn't be restraining us from deleting a compacted topics since I have wildcard rights on topics.

This is the permissions we define :

And then when I authenticate I get the correct group:

I would expect also a different message in the kafka UI, something like "you don't have right" or just an unclickable item.

In my case the UI is clearly stating that clear message can only be done on topics with DELETE policy.

Ok I think i found the issue, the topic I failed to remove had a cleanup.policy of compactwhereas the topic I could delete in my previous tries had a cleanup.policy of compact,delete.

Even tough in the UI you would see for the compact,delete topic :

you could still purge via the button :

When I tried again on a compact only topic it didn't work.

Can you confirm that this is an intended feature to not be able to remove compact topic but it's working to compact,delete topics?
