Mbah Kost: AI-Powered Kost Hunting with External Source Integration

How we built an intelligent Indonesian kost finder with seamless external platform integration

The Problem with Finding Affordable Kost in Indonesia

Finding affordable boarding houses (kost) in Indonesia has always been a challenge. Students and workers often spend hours browsing multiple platforms like Mamikos, OLX, and Rumah123, comparing prices, locations, and facilities. The process is fragmented, time-consuming, and often frustrating.

Our Solution: Mbah Kost

We built Mbah Kost - an AI-powered web application that acts as a wise elderly Indonesian uncle ("Mbah") who knows all the best kosts. But we didn't stop at just another search app. We integrated direct links to external platforms, creating a seamless bridge between AI recommendations and actual bookings.

External Source Integration

We implemented a sophisticated URL generation system that creates realistic, platform-specific links:

Implementation Details

Smart URL Generation

The system generates context-aware URLs based on:

  • Platform type (Mamikos, OLX, Rumah123, etc.)
  • Listing name with proper slugification
  • Realistic ID patterns for each platform
