Thanks for taking the time to troubleshoot that. The Python dependencies have been a pain for a while now. I'm thinking I need to rebuild the back end in JS at some point, since that's what the rest of the app is written in.
Is there anything in particular that you're interested in working on?
I was going to try my hand at writing a simple adventure or trying to port an older adventure. I grew up playing Eamon and the Infocom games on the Apple; it would be nice to see them live again!

followed the instructions to set up a local dev environment on a stock Ubuntu 24.04 LTS environment, with python 3.12
got an error on module pkg_resource being missing inside the eamon virtual environment, even though it was present on the system.
To clear the error, I modified the Pipfile to install setuptools rev 68.x.x - it looks like pkg_resource got moved there sometime recently.
