Fix India Map #259

This is an inherent characteristic of the upstream data sources we use, not a bug or a change am doing: Two independent layers show borders :
What the data shows
India's official claim extends to ~37°N and includes ALL of J&K. The GeoJSON and CARTO tiles both show de-facto control (LoC), not India's claimed boundaries. Why this happensBoth OSM and Natural Earth follow the de-facto standard: they map who actually administers territory, not who claims it. This is the global mapping convention used by Google Maps (outside India), Apple Maps (outside India), OpenStreetMap, and virtually all international map providers. Google Maps inside India actually shows different borders, they comply with India's IT Act 2000 requirements. But that's a geo-fenced view, not the default global dataset. Am not Google, I have no plans to introduce 2 default views like Google does with a zillion employee. Appreciate you, but please this is not something that I will consider. |
