Twig number_format

The number_format filter was added in Twig 1.5.

Is there a way to add the number_format filter to Stacey (Twig 1.4)?

I am dynamically adding two (currency) values within a template, the display does not default to two decimals. For example, 1.40 displays as 1.4 without the trailing zero.

Or perhaps there is an easier way.
