PyLIQTR has provided support for specialized block encodings for various application instances of interest, specifically the Fermi Hubbard Model. The resources reported by their examples seem to give better scaling than the approaches we are currently using. When we have the chance, we will want to benchmark their proposed solution and perhaps incorporate it into the relevant notebooks.
