Mix.install when attached to node

Hi!

I have just updated to 0.6.1 and am trying to write a notebook to perform on dev tasks for one of our projects. I normally go about this by starting up our project and then connecting to it from the livebook as an attached node.

The problem I'm running into now is that I need to use Kino, but I'm getting an error saying that you can't use Mix.install in a mix project.

Is this the correct behavior?

Correct. You would need to have Kino as a dependency of the project you are connecting to.

@josevalim Has this changed at all in the last couple of years? Is there anyway to have dependencies (e.g. kino, explorer) that aren't part of the main project? E.g. specified in a separate env group or something?

You can start a notebook using the default “elixir standalone” runtime, add kino as a dependency of your notebook, and integrate with your may app using standard Elixir distributed.
