Writing Goals triggers global Sync every 1 second

Although I like this plugin, the Goal Update Time seems to trigger a global Sync on Obsidian according to the number of seconds it is set to. For example, for accurate wordcounts I have it set to 1 second. However, this triggers a global Sync on Obsidian every 1 second. This causes the Sync icon to toggle on and off in the corner every 1 second, which is quite distracting.

Is there a way for the plugin to check word counts without trigger a global Sync?
