The LGPL license is not really compatible with the BSD license used in IPython (and much of the Python world). You might want to consider relicensing if you would like this project repackaged in other distributions.

Thanks, I know very little about the legal details of licencing so I just grabbed the first thing that worked. I suspect that since I load IPython from a webpage I actually have no incompatibility problems, any more than you would have accessing IPython from a proprietary browser like Internet explorer. That said I'm willing to alter the licence if it makes sense - my main concern is to limit the extent to which this could be bundled into a commercial application by a company without that company contributing back to the project. That is, I don't mind if it is eventually bundled, I just think the community should benefits from any improvements
