Incorrect reference to x32 DLLs instead of x64 on x64 build of C++ sample project (0xc000007b error) #5589

Describe the bug
After installing onnxruntime and building the example MNIST C++ project the resultant MNIST.exe crashes with a 0xc000007b error. This error is often associated with mixed-up x32/x64 DLLs. Using Process Monitor I found a number of x32 DLLs being referenced by MNIST.exe even though I built it using the x64 Native Tools Command Prompt for VS 2017 (in administrator mode).

Urgency
I am attempting to learn and potentially integrate ONNX models into a C++ application. The sooner I can see ONNX working the sooner I can begin experimenting with the framework and developing a potential workflow and integration.

Expected behavior
That the sample project will load.

Hi,

How would you propose to solve the issue in case of loading such a DLL using python ctypes?
I am working on a project where i have to use the inference of a trained model in c++. I used onnnxruntime and i am to build the DLL but while linking it to the other DLL of the project I am facing issues, as the onnxruntime.dll from the c/windows/system32 is loaded while using ctypes.CDLL() (a project-based requirement). I cannot put the DLL at the location of python.exe as this is a project-level violation. Could you please suggest some alternative?

Thanks! I found and copied ONNXruntime\build\Windows\Release\Release\onnxruntime.dll to ONNXruntime\samples\c_cxx\MNIST, such that the onnxruntime.dll existed in the same folder as MNIST.exe. I then downloaded the MNIST model file from the ONNX model zoo (https://github.com/onnx/models) models/vision/classification/mnist/model/mnist-8.onnx and placed it in the same directory but with the name model.onnx.

The sample program then works perfectly.
