New version fails to build basic blocks and control flow graph for ARM64 binaries

Version 1.2.1 fails to build basic blocks and control flow graph for ARM64 binaries, which makes it difficult to see loops, branches, and hot blocks. I can't remember which version it last worked... maybe 1.1.5?

Can you ensure this is an issue with the actual new version and not some dependency gone awry? Maybe try uninstalling Profile Explorer and re-installing the latest 1.2.1.

I am saying this because I have issues like this in the past with dependencies.

Maybe add PROFILE_EXPLORER_DEBUG=1 and launch PE with this checking a file like %temp%\ProfileExplorer_Diagnostic_20260428_165426_4996.log

Maybe that or a crash log would give clues if a component is not registered. It would be good to know if this is a symbol or binary issue (check GUI Profiling -> Profile Report) after load. Or if this a dep not working so that CFG and graphs don't work (my theory with the dependency issue).

TMK we haven't changes any dependencies lately in new versions except TraceEvent which is not used for that.

Thanks for the information. This is a freshly installed Profile Explorer 1.2.1, not updated from an older version (the older version was on another VM which I have since deleted). I also don't see any crashes in the logs.

Also, opening the executable by itself seems to work - both syntax highlighting and basic blocks are built. It's only when I open an ETW trace does the syntax highlighting and basic block building fail.

I threw copilot at it locally and it did manage to vibe code something. It noticed that the IR mode was stuck at x86_64. Perhaps that's a potential lead?

Also keep open the possibility it's not the new version, it's symbols (or could be). I have had issues where I thought a new PE was to blame but instead it was symbols at times.

New box = new symbol config and symbol state from previous runs

Check the GUI like I said. With that env variable you can also use the new Analyze-DiagnosticLog.ps1 script to print out a lot of symbol info

Symbols are loaded correctly for my binary. I checked the GUI and both the binary and symbols are loaded. It also properly detected that it's Arm64. I will note that the binary disassembles properly and I see real ARM64 assembly, where each instruction is annotated with profile information. It's just that I can't see basic blocks or the flow graph; Profile Explorer just treats the entire function as one big block even though it has branches and loops.

I will note that x64 binaries work just fine.
