Twitter error message

When trying to run gallery-dl on a twitter url, it gives me "[twitter][error] DirectoryFormatError: Applying directory format string failed (SyntaxError: invalid syntax (, line 1))"

I'm running as administrator. I uninstalled gallery-dl, and when I reinstalled according to the instructions in the README.rst, it gave me "Defaulting to user installation because normal site-packages is not writeable". I then set up a virtual environment and installed gallery-dl again, and I continue to get that message whenever I try to install or update a package. (It also prompts me to update pip, but I'm already running the latest version.)

This usually means that there is an issue with your config file?
Can you share the "directory" part of Twitter of your config here?

Ahh, facepalming. I feel silly now. I'd copied and pasted it from someone's example and promptly forgot about it. So I took this portion out and everything I've coded so far seems to be working ok, aside from returning "[postprocessor][warning] module 'content' not found". I'm sure this is because I haven't gotten as far as setting up the postprocessing modules yet, I was so focused on just getting the extractor portions of the code to run.

Here it is:

If it's not too much trouble, would you be able to tell me what this does and how to make it work? I've been looking through the documentation and it's maddening trying to figure out what all the terminology means and what information is relevant to what I want to do with my setup. (I'm quite the newbie, in case it wasn't obvious.) If not, that's ok too! I'll probably figure it out eventually.

The config part you posted is missing a closing }. Maybe that's what caused the error.
This here works just fine:

"directory": {
    "quote_id"  : ["twitter", "{quote_by}"  , "quote-retweets"],
    "retweet_id": ["twitter", "{user[name]}", "retweets"],
    ""          : ["twitter", "{user[name]}"]
}

You could also just remove these settings and see if it works without.
