I was getting similar issues with Arch. Using the appimage instead resulted in the game running perfectly fine.

@Notexe The appimage does seem to work better, but Microsoft Authentication doesn't work at all which locks you out of multiplayer and any DLC you've purchased. For me it just hangs on "Connecting to your Microsoft Account"

I thought the point of an appimage is that it included all the deps in the executable? Also, it used to run and I used to be able to sign in but now I am no longer able to. The only thing that changed between when I was able to and now is that I left the beta program so that I could download 1.12.x since the launcher wouldn't accept any apk I tried to import. I would just find where it's saving data to and delete it to reset everything but I can't find where this launcher writes its data to. I did find something in .cache but after deleting that the launcher still somehow has my Google Play info.

EDIT: Still hangs endlessly at "Signing in with your Microsoft Account" even after compiling and installing msa-daemon. It would be nice to know where this launcher stores data so I can just delete it and start fresh...

The `msa` is not a dependency, it is a separate component, you must install it separately or build it from source.

I deleted folder "~/.local/share/msa" and after that logging to Microsoft XBox Live account started working (Xubuntu 18.04, 32-bit, msa, mcpelauncher and mcpelauncher-ui compiled from source code)
