display less/shorter info about subtitle/audio streams when switching tracks

Hi, I want to display the short info as it was previously in mpv. for example
old mpv:
Subtitle Track: 1/3 [en] English (forced)
new mpv
Subtitles: 1 'English (forced)' (en subrip [Advanced Sub Station Alpha]) [default forced]

I don't think there's an option for the format of that message, but you can rebind the key and print your own text with show-text. In input.conf:

j no-osd cycle sub; show-text "${?current-tracks/sub:Subtitle Track: ${current-tracks/sub/id} [${current-tracks/sub/lang}] ${current-tracks/sub/title}${?current-tracks/sub/forced==yes: (forced)}}${!current-tracks/sub:Subtitle Track: off}"
J no-osd cycle sub down; show-text "${?current-tracks/sub:Subtitle Track: ${current-tracks/sub/id} [${current-tracks/sub/lang}] ${current-tracks/sub/title}${?current-tracks/sub/forced==yes: (forced)}}${!current-tracks/sub:Subtitle Track: off}"

no-osd hides the default long message and show-text shows yours instead. THe ${?...} / ${!...} parts just handle the case where subs are turned off. Same idea works for audio with # and current-tracks/audio/....

Only thing I couldn't get is the "1/3" total, track-list/count counts all tracks (video and audio too) so it gives the wrong number.

Thank you but I never change subtitles with keybinds, I always click on the icon.

Ah, the OSC buttons are configurable too, so the same trick works for clicks. Create ~/.config/mpv/script-opts/osc.conf with:

sub_track_mbtn_left_command=no-osd cycle sub; show-text "${?current-tracks/sub:Subtitle Track: ${current-tracks/sub/id} [${current-tracks/sub/lang}] ${current-tracks/sub/title}${?current-tracks/sub/forced==yes: (forced)}}${!current-tracks/sub:Subtitle Track: off}"
sub_track_mbtn_mid_command=no-osd cycle sub down; show-text "${?current-tracks/sub:Subtitle Track: ${current-tracks/sub/id} [${current-tracks/sub/lang}] ${current-tracks/sub/title}${?current-tracks/sub/forced==yes: (forced)}}${!current-tracks/sub:Subtitle Track: off}"

Left click and middle click on the subtitle icon will then show the short message. There are also sub_track_wheel_down_command / sub_track_wheel_up_command if you scroll on the icon, and the same options exist for audio (audio_track_mbtn_left_command etc., with current-tracks/audio/...). These are documented in the OSC section of the manual.
