I approve of both ideas, in principle (I am a fan of configurability), but I have some problems in both cases:
if removing spawner/other count, do those just not get counted anymore, or do we turn the biter count into a global kill count? The former doesn't seem particularly productive, as we have to count all the things anyway -- just ignore what you're not interested in.
if splitting the list per unit type, what do we do to prevent it from growing out of control? Show only the top 3/5? Alternately, do we want to have a button you can click to bring up a "kill details" popup?

I would love to see advance options for the kill counter. Mainly being able to say disable certain things like spanners or other count.
For me I don't really pay attention as much to spawners and I for sure don't want to look at other :)
