Is it possible to install Recognize as a separate service and let Nextcloud call it remotely?

I’m running Nextcloud on a Kubernetes cluster, but this cluster doesn’t have any GPU resources.
For better performance, I’d like to run the Recognize app (or its backend service) on another machine that has a GPU, and let Nextcloud send recognition requests to that remote server.

Is it possible to configure Recognize this way — as a standalone service that Nextcloud can call externally?
If yes, could you please provide some guidance or configuration examples?

This idea has come up before and we're planning to implement a separate service like this, but there is no ETA as of yet.

What does it really need? Why not just stand up a second instance of the nextcloud container on a node with a GPU, and point it at the same database, with file locking in a shared redis? No one external has to ever call it - you can just use the recognize TUI commands.

Yes, with the official Nextcloud container, you cannot use recognize on GPU. That's a limitation. Bare metal, should work, though.

I am not sure whether an alien exists in the universe has found the correct combination of TensorFlow+ CUDA+cuDNN combination and actually succeeded :)

Somebody created a docker container of nextcloud with the necessary dependencies, even, I think. @bugsyb, iirc

This is correct. I even had for initial processing of our family cloud photos cluster of 3-4 nodes working in parallel. These were "normal" deployments of Nextcloud pointing to same DB however the UI side was effectively just one of the node, specifically it was the one without any GPU..

Here is set of files allowing to build image of Nextcloud with Recognize in the docker, then all what's needed is to have it accessing the same DB as effectively it creates instance of NC for GPU processing.

The last time I've used it to compile image was just 3-4 weeks ago and all worked.
