Bug description

When I change a group name via the Nextcloud interface, the change is not reflected in the API.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Login to Nextcloud
  2. Change group name from Team&1 to Team-1.
  3. API CALL: curl -u username:password -X GET 'https://cloud.example.com/ocs/v1.php/cloud/groups' -H "OCS-APIRequest: true"

Expected behavior

I expect that the changed group name will also be displayed when the changed group name is called via the API. The old group name is currently displayed from the API Call.

This is almost certainly the same underling cause as #37613 and #36840. IIRC the root cause is tech debt related to how the groups are tracked/stored in the db. i.e. Their initial names being used as their ids in the db so renaming them doesn't change their ids. And some place we show the id and other places we show their display name.

Needed:

  • clean up the approach used
  • use things consistently
  • implement a migration step for existing installations
