Example: people A, B and C are on a holiday together and have a group in the app with all 3 people in it. Adding items to the expenses splits them evenly between the 3 of them.
However, if people A and B decide to go out drinking and C prefers to stay in the hotel, adding the bar tab in the app would have C pay for something he took no part in. In that case A and B would have to make a separate group that would only complicate things further. And it gets even more complicated if there are more people involved.

So I propose a simple option when adding an expense: Participants, which lists all members of the group with a tickbox next to their names (by default all will be checked).

This is happening most of the times I use a bill splitting app – which I do not need to sum up all bills and divide by 3, but only when it gets more complicated.

Fory my use, it is sufficient to select involved people for each single bill, i.e. an even distribution amongst all parties involved with a bill. Other apps offer uneven distribution by percentage, e.g. one person 50% and the two other persons 25%, or in absolute numbers, e.g. one person was not hungry and thus only pays the 3€ for the drink (entered manually) while the two others take over the rest, so 15€ each (pre-filled by the app by calculating (33€-3€)/2 ). This "uneven" feature would be nice2have for me, as I can manually break down one bill into two entries, e.g. "dinner - drink only" 3€ with one involved person, and "dinner - meal and drink" 30€ with two involved persons and evenly distributed.
