They are funded by the Department of Energy's [Computational Science Graduate Fellowship](https://www.krellinst.org/csgf/). Their primary interest is in using machine learning (ML) to improve oceanographic modeling in Earth system models (ESMs). Currently, they are developing ML-based frameworks to parameterize for historically unresolved small-scale air-sea fluxes in order to reduce bias in ESMs.
