PROJECT: Improve event data model of Opencast

1. Aim/description

We want to significantly improve the way Opencast stores, processes and transfers data related to events. This will affect metadata, ACLs and other catalogs/attachments of events, videos less so. Series data is only considered where it relates to the former or is otherwise convenient.

This will very likely result in a significant changes in the way important parts of Opencast works. If you work on Opencast or rely on specific functionality, you want to read the proposal for the new data model - at least the "breaking changes" section - and share your thoughts and opinions with the developers.

2. After the issue has been created, please use project fields to the right to categorise your project:

• Funding: Funded by the so-called "Rüdiger's money"
• Scope: XL?
• Area: Every part that handles event data: Archive/Asset Manager, Indices, Search, Workflow Service, Admin UI, ...
• Begin/End: Discussion has begun and will continue in bi-weekly Architecture meetings (see community calendar linked on the website). Actual implementation might be split into multiple steps and could take at least a year.

3. Additional information

• Responsible Person: Currently mostly Lukas Kalbertodt (elan e.V.)
• Additional Stakeholders: The whole of elan (represented in this case mostly by Julian Kniephoff and Katrin Ihler) and the University of Osnabrueck (represented by Rüdiger Rolf) as the project lead.
