content/join.md says the way to join is to email or join Slack. I would recommend self-hosting a discussion service using a free tool such as Discourse, Rocket.Chat, or Wire instead of using a non-free service.

I'd recommend Mattermost for the best Slack alternative.

There are just 13 days left before the free trial of Slack Pro ends.

Calculating:
$8.75 USD * 458 members = $4K/month.

Do we have $4K right now if we want to buy it?

Rocky Linux team already using Mattermost. Link:
As openEla and RockyLinux also supported by CIQ, I think Mattermost will be launch soon.
