Mobile Github App #113516

The Problem: A resent update to Github Mobile app android . Means can not login in the Github app. Have been able to use with no problems for a long time now. The steps taken so far to fix
My choose of Firefox focus is not the issue here. Get the same with Chrome and Plain Firefox. Not going to Edge so no idea if that works, by guess is no. Allowing in app links. Using latest version of Android 13 at time of writing. My guess is that by using linking to a web browser is not working. Allowing linking to any web browser is probably not the best idea, here, for authentication. (Ie user selects default web browser in android). Using another app (web browser) in principle to login to github, is maybe a security issue. Maybe something to avoid as the whole idea of this process to ensure security. But then rely on an unknown entity to do the heavy lifting seems less than ideal. No complaint is complete, unless some sort of solution is offered. From my development experience a possible solution is to use 'android system web view' a app that should be enabled on all android phones by default (unless a user disables it) it works in place of a web browse and is based on chromium project. Problem with with solution is if android system webview is disabled then it fails silently, no prompts nothing. This would allow a known (stable?) third party app to do the login. avoiding the differences between web browse that could affect login. This is my observation and experience, and apologies if my understanding is wrong. |
