openSUSE Tumbleweed container not working in Codespaces

I am having a problem with running a Tumbleweed container in Codespaces.
For reproducing I created a repo that contains a single devcontainer.json file:

For crosschecking, I made a leap-15.5 branch with a Leap 15.5 container, which works fine.
Here is the error I'm getting:

An unexpected error occurred that requires a reload of this page.
The workbench failed to connect to the server (Error: exception was thrown by handler. exception: failed to start vs code remote server.)

I also tried to look at various logfiles but couldn't find very much:

How would I be able to find out the problem? Is there anything else I could check?

It turned out that the latest tumbleweed container is missing the packages awk and tar. In a previous snapshot some months ago it still had those packages. I guess they were removed to reduce the size.
Now, this would have been much easier if we actually were getting an error message about that.
A colleague only found this out by running VSCode on their workstation, in which case they were able to see the error about missing awk.

I marked it as an answer but it would be nice if GitHub Codespaces was able to show such errors.
