Uploading a Sitemap from GitHub Pages to Google Search Console

I have a website hosted statically on GitHub Pages. When attempting to manage it with Google Search Console, I noticed that it has only been able to index the landing page of the site.

To address this, I decided to create a sitemap. However, when I load it into Google Search Console and submit the link, it fails to recognize it and shows the error: Couldn't fetch.

Is it possible that I’m missing something, or does GitHub, as the host of the page, automatically handle and generate the sitemap?

Additionally, I downloaded the sitemap from this service, so I don’t believe the issue is related to the format or structure of the XML file.

Any insights would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I'm having the same problem with this sitemap. Interestingly, this one works fine.

I think the problem is google 100%
