Basically, I followed the 'recommended' method on the template site itself, which explains quite well step by step what has to be done.

Also, I found that unless you have another repository for your project page, you do not need to put anything in the baseurl when adjusting the _config.yml file. The only thing you really need to do when setting up your first page is put your link, in my case https://joannagladysz.github.io, in the url (without the forward slash at the end). I hope this helps.
