I am a newbie in my programming career, and I want to learn how to create a REST API and connect React.js with Django. I'm trying to build a simple blog API. I've already created a form in React with fields for the title and description, just for practice. Since this is my first attempt, I want to keep things simple. If anyone can help me, I would really appreciate it! ;) |

Hello Xueyi, that's really cool that we both study the same!! I'm well known with C#, HTML/PHP, and ASP.NET, and have used MySQL when connecting databases and developing websites. I started my GitHub journey yesterday, but I am really confused about how it all works. I also started working with Django today, and it's really fun. I recommend it. I need to develop a website for a university course. I'm unsure what to create, but I'm considering using Python and Django. If you have any ideas, please let me know. Hello again, and thank you for your kind words. You are so nice! It's totally fine to be a beginner. I remember feeling kinda scared because everyone around me seemed so smart (but then again, they had been coding since they were kids...), and don't get me wrong, I still feel like a beginner when seeing what everyone around me has achieved. I would love to discuss with you and help each other out along the way!! We both are going to learn so much, I know it. Thank you for your ideas. I will look into them and make a plan out of them (or maybe even combine the ideas, who knows). I started applying for internships and noticed that several companies requested a project as part of their application. I haven't made my own projects; I've only done assignments from school, but I wouldn't want to submit that, as it isn't an everyday-life kind of development. Therefore, I started searching around and came across GitHub and made an account yesterday. As for Django, I saw it in my course and decided to give it a try (we hadn't covered it in class). I would also like to add that W3Schools is a great website that covers most languages, especially if you haven't used it yet. My advice would be to code. I know many people say that "practice makes perfect", but it really does. Look at different programming languages, see if you can combine them, and create a project for yourself. JavaScript already covers a huge part of full stack development, powering frontend (React, Next.js), backend (Node.js, Express, Nest.js), mobile apps (React Native), and even desktop apps (Electron). If your main goal is full stack, going deep into JavaScript is a solid path. Python excels in areas like AI, data science, automation, and also offers strong backend support with Django and Flask. Learning Python can expand your perspective and technical identity. That said, trying to learn both at once often slows you down, so it’s usually better to master one language first and become truly productive, then expand to another based on your future goals. If full stack is your focus right now, prioritize deepening your JavaScript skills and consider adding Python later if you want to branch into AI, data science, or security. |
