Dynamically specify branch name in inputs

In some cases we may need to specify branch name at workflow start and in case of manual run we may use inputs.

As for now we may set it as a string

on:
  workflow_dispatch:
    inputs:
      manual_branch:
        description: Set branch
        required: true
        type: string
        default: main
      # dynamic_branch:
      #   description: Select branch
      #   required: true
      #   type: dynamic_branch
      #   default: main

It may be very usefully to have a special type like dynamic_branch which will show a list of branches in the repository, something like this

Something related - How I can generate user inputs choice based on files in the repo #25291, because we can do that in Jenkins.

BTW, did you find some simple workaround?

Short research showed that it is not currently supported and in our case it is like "nice to have".

Even if that is working, waiting ~1 minute just to get list of branches is not so friendly.

I am really surprised Git does not yet have this feature. It seems so obvious to have this integration out of the box, cause Git is all about versioning.. Even in Jenkins we can easily do that, and not in native environment?

Yeah I am actually more than surprised, I am shocked that they have the workflow branch dropdown by default, and only an input field for the workflow_dispatch branches.
