Tinkering with the "Buster" Kernel 4.19:

• @ntxngle reports in the post at the this link success with building the Buster kernel with the default Buster buildscripts:
• So far, my attempts to do the same have been failing with a few errors...
• the version ntxngle posted will have CONFIG_ZRAM_WRITEBACK enabled via ./menuconfig Device Drivers --> Block devices --> write back incompressible page...
• & Also some very interesting data & mod & adjustments for running EV3 & motors at 12V in the full discussion at Issue How to override/ignore EV3 Large Motor Max DPS #1659

• has made some interesting updates to the Buster EV3 buildscripts in this fork.

• & also has created & released an updated & trim version of 4.19 kernel ( currently 4.19.325 )

• Note: I have myself also booted StepanTheFlowey's kernel...but would need to adjust some things for my use case as discussed here

I can confirm, the buster kernel has also been working for me. I haven't tested it very extensively though.

The PR is basic stuff to get it to build and boot. Sensors and motors are still broken.

As for getting sensors and motors to work:

Nice. I didn't have any experience with the Linux kernel when I started with ev3dev in 2013. Now, my full time job is Linux kernel hacking, all thanks to playing with LEGO.

FYI, I would like to update the latest branch from 6.9 to 6.12 since that is going to be the next LTS (long term support) kernel.

Going something 6.12 definately make sense. My plan has always been to first fix the issues and then go to newer versions.

As of right now, it's also easier for pull requests against 6.9 because there is a branch for that in the repo.
