This is potentially a very long standing issue, which I can find no information on other than this report from 4 years ago:
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/70923348/pyinstaller-splashscreen-root-iconbitmap-resets-to-default
Basically, under the following conditions:
Then calls to Tk.iconphoto() are ignored and the default feather icon is displayed. Need to manually call iconbitmap() on each window, as it is created, in order to set the window icon.
I can verify that using a 'one file' build, or removing the splash screen both make iconphoto() work as expected.
I have tried moving pyi_splash.close() to before the first Tk call, but this does not help, so it is not likely a sequencing issue.
Any other way around this?
