Issue description / feature objectives

Because of the use of mdformat by compliance-trestle there were issues around escaping of square brackets that was propagated to the rendered output markdown files.

It appears this has changed: executablebooks/mdformat#464

If this change is meaningful for our markdown files we may be able to simplify the output moving forward
