apply_file TypeError

hey, i tried to do a simple read test and it fails:

class AmenityListHandler(SimpleHandler):
...
AmenityListHandler.apply_file("myfile.osm.pbf")

i'm getting this type error:

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "<string>", line 1, in <module>
TypeError: apply_file(): incompatible function arguments. The following argument types are supported:
    1. (self: osmium._osmium.SimpleHandler, filename: object, locations: bool = False, idx: str = 'flex_mem') -> None

Invoked with: 'myfile.osm.pbf'

any ideas?
