How to throw api error in a custom strategy in payload v3?

We're using payload cms for api for android app. We need to throw some error in custom strategy, in payload v2 when we threw api error from custom strategy it was shown in the response, but in payload 3 its giving error 500.

                  throw new ApiError('Custom error message',  401, { code: 'CUSTOM_ERROR_CODE'  }, true);
             }

         }, 
         name: 'appAuth'  
       }
],

In payload v2 this used to throw 401 error code. In payload v2 it throws 500 error code without our custom error payload.

Throwing error works correctly as defined in routeError/formatErrors, it looks like my code probably has some error unrelated to payload.
