Railway.com template?

Sarah Bedell with railway.com reached out to the PostgreSQL Advocacy mailing list a few days ago, asking if someone from the PG Community would have time to ensure the railway.com Postgres template is good:

Hi there,

I am reaching out from Railway, a PaaS provider (competitive to the 3 big
cloud providers).

We have 150k people deploying Postgres from a template
<https://railway.com/deploy/postgres> on our platform. We are launching a
partnership program in September where we promote technologies with popular
templates. There's also potential for you to get revenue share if you'd
like even more involvement.

The ask: would someone from the Postgres community be interested in
participating in this partnership?

If so, we'd like to 1) have you verify the template looks good to you and
2) add a tutorial on launching Postgres in Railway in the docs (we can
write it).

I suggested that we might be able to get that done, though we'd also recommend pointing out pgautoupgrade for the right situations too. ie anyone wanting to always be on a supported PG and not wanting to manage upgrades themselves

Sarah seemed ok with it, and no-one else from the PG Community seemed interested, so I think this could be a good mutual-benefit type of opportunity.

Is anyone here interested in doing that? 😄

well sound like a task for me, or at least a topic i can support? most of the stuff that is happening here actually is coding which is a reason im very quiet here at the moment. the other reason is that i migrate my whole docker swarm cluster to a kubernetes cluster and learning k8s from scratch on bare metal (yes i hate myself xD)

Heh Heh Heh, I've been personally avoiding Kubernetes due to having constrained time myself. 😉

And yeah, definitely go for it with this.

Interestingly, the Railway "Kickback" program seems like it could be quite lucrative for widely deployed templates:

If that does turn into a solid income stream, that could be a super useful way of us funding development on a more sustained basis. 😄

@wuast94 @justinclift Yes, this all sounds great! As a first step, would you be able to take a look at this postgres template and provide any feedback? We can incorporate it, then verify the default postgres template.

Additionally, making a pgautoupgrade template makes a lot of sense to me - feel free to do that at any time! (you will automatically get kickback)
