I was told at some point that the only way to register with a polity was by registering anew as if one hadn't before and adding the polity in the new registration. This issue is more to register that formally. Since this affects votes one can cast, it follows that we need to think organizationally how we want this done.

Access to polities is currently determined via JSON communication with IcePirate, which hosts information on which member organizations each member belongs to. They are matched together by "slug" in Wasa2il (on the polity), corresponding to either "slug" or "techname" on IcePirate's side.
What's good about this, is that the member database is entirely separate yet still dictating voting rights. What's bad about it, is that it doesn't really fit with organizations which don't use IcePirate - and for the overwhelming majority of organizations, there is no real reason to use IcePirate.
So yes, I agree, we need to think organizationally how we want this done.
