Feature request: allow users to control equivalents of valign, vjust, halign, and hjust from ggtext within geom_marquee and element_marquee

One of the {ggtext} features I've found really useful is the ability to control both where a textbox sits relative to its coordinate, and how the text is aligned within the textbox. It would be great to bring this across to geom_marquee() if possible.

Being able to align text in specific ways is really helpful for fine-tuning annotations.

It's also useful in avoid titles and subtitles running into each other if they go over multiple lines. An extreme example:

All fixable by tweaking margins on a per-plot basis, but it would be great to be able to set the alignments in a custom theme so that we know the theme will align the text appropriately and not require additional work-arounds.

geom_marquee already supports hjust and vjust for positioning the box of text. halign is encapsulated in the align style property, and valign doesn't really make sense for marquee since there is no height besides what is defined by the text.

So I'm not sure what else there is to do at this point

Thanks for getting back to me! I think I must have got confused about what was possible as they're specified in different places. I'll take another look at how to replicate those alignments and report back if I find something that I think warrants reopening the conversation. Happy to close as user error for now.

No worries. As I said you won't find a replacement for valign because a textbook is never taller than the text
