How do you choose the 2nd level classifier

Is through experimentation or idk, how do you guys choose it. Thanks for the answers.

For stacking? Usually most people use a logistic regression classifier (that is the classic example). However, you can use whatever classifier you prefer. And yes, in that case it then comes down to experimentation.
