I've heard from a bunch of people (mostly PRT guys, obv) that they preferred the mapviewer gallery over the PRGallery one:

1: The tiles are too big - This means you have to scroll to see all tiles on most displays
2: The ingame minimap is more helpful in identifying the maps than the loading screen photos
Players see the ingame map a whole lot more than they see the loading screen, so the association is much stronger.

Would you consider a PR on this, @UTurista ?

1: is too subjective to make real changes. I like the tiles this size and will always be someone else will like them smaller/bigger. For a pr, I think I would only consider if somehow it would be optional (ie: having a checkbox somewhere that would change the tiles style ).

2: While I agree with the association, once again I feel these images are prettier and so they should be kept

Both these issues, imo, are a symptom of not having a search (#11) function available. If a player wants to quickly open a map they should just type and open it (this is what I do, I press ctrl+f and find the map I want) all other users should be allowed to just browse the gallery and see pretty pictures that offer slightly better context than the maps (which can be seen in the details).

Not really subjective. It does exceed screenspace :) .

Regarding how-to-find maps: I doubt many people use the search functionality. Yes, it's a nice feature, and the old gallery (and my mapviewer) had it, but it's still too bothersome. It's hard to beat just clicking on a button/image in terms of convenience.

And how do "pretty pictures" offer better context than the actual ingame maps? But I'm fairly confident that a majority of active players will have an easier time associating the "ugly" ingame map with the map than the loading screen scene.

Yes, this entire issue is not high priority, but polishing a good tool to make it perfect for the majority of the userbase (= active players) shouldn't hurt.
